(Seychelles News Agency) - The President of Seychelles, Danny Faure, has sent a message of condolence to his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, following the tragic incident involving Aeroflot Flight SU 1942, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

In his message, Faure said, “In this very painful moment of national grief, the people and the government of Seychelles join me in extending our heartfelt condolences to you personally, to the people of Russia and to the families of the victims and everyone affected by this unprecedented tragedy.”

According to the American-based news network CNN, “At least 41 people on board a Russian passenger jet were killed, including two children, after the aircraft crash-landed at a Moscow airport on Sunday, bursting into flames on impact.”

CNN added that “Russia's Interfax news agency reported that a "loss of communication" caused by a "lightning strike" had led to the decision to return to Sheremetyevo. No official cause has yet been provided for the disaster.”
