Seychellois and French men presumed drowned in separate incidents, says Seychelles police
(Seychelles News Agency) - The Seychelles police have reported the death of two elderly men, presumed to have drowned in two separate incidents on Saturday.
According to a press statement issued today, a 66 year old Seychellois man, Regis Balthilde was found floating in the sea near the former Casuarina Hotel, in the Anse Aux Pins district on the eastern coast of the Seychelles main island of Mahé.
The incident was reported at 3.10pm local time.
“According to reports the man was seen floating by two men who were sitting on the beach,” reads the statement.
Balthilde was certified dead upon being transported to the Seychelles Hospital.
The second incident reported at 2.35 pm on Saturday, the police were informed that a man was having difficulty while swimming at Anse Marie-Louise in the Southern part of Mahe.
The 63-year-old French national, Gerarld Wilmont was holidaying in Seychelles together with his wife and a friend.
“Some people who were nearby helped to remove him from the sea and he was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately it was too late,” reads the police statement.
Wilmont had arrived in Seychelles on February 4, and was supposed to leave on February 24.
An autopsy will be conducted in both cases to determine the exact cause of death.
