(Seychelles News Agency) - Seychelles police has reported the death of an Indian national who worked for a local company, Vijay Construction. The 42-year-old man is said to have died following “a work related incident” this morning.

The incident occurred at Ile Du Port, a reclaimed area on the outskirts of the island nation’s capital of Victoria.

Vijay Construction is currently undertaking the construction of a new commercial fishing quay at Ile du Port.

“According to the person in charge on the site at that time, they were working [on a floating platform]…and the sea was rough. The victim...lost [his] balance and fell into the sea,” reads a police statement issued this afternoon.

The deceased is said to have been cut under his right arm as he grabbed “a sharp metal object" when trying to get back up, which caused him to lose a lot of blood.

“The man was certified dead upon arrival at the Seychelles Hospital at 8.40 am [local time].

An investigation is being conducted while the police await autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
