(Seychelles News Agency) - Seychelles high jumper Lissa Labiche has won a gold medal last night at the 11th edition of the All Africa Games taking place in Brazzaville, Congo.

Labiche came out first with a height of 1.91 metres in front of Nigerian Doreen Amata (1.85metres) and South African Julia du Plessis (1.80metres). Recently Labiche won a gold at the Indian Ocean Games in Reunion where she cleared 1.81 metres.

While Labiche continues to shine both in the Indian Ocean region and Africa, she still has to work for a qualification spot for the Olympic Games in Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro in August 2016.

Although the result is 3 centimetres less than the qualification standard which is 1.94 metres, Lissa made a jump of 1.92 metres in the South African Open Athletics’ Championship in May 2015 which is the Seychelles national record.

In Boxing at the All Africa Games, Seychellois contender Keddy Agnes won a silver medal when he lost his final bout 0-3 to Nigerian Efe Ajagba in the +91 kg category.

In ladies volleyball, Seychelles lost 0-3 to Egypt in the match for bronze medal with a score of 17-25, 6-25 and 15-25. The result puts Seychelles 4th in the ranking below Egypt (3rd) Cameroon (2nd) and Kenya (1st). The Seychellois ladies team also took 4th place in the last edition of the games in 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique.

The Seychelles islands, situated in the western Indian Ocean ,have won a total of 4 gold medals in the games after Ruby Malvina in weightlifting won 2 gold medals and Juliette Ahwan and Alisen Camille won the ladies doubles final in badminton.

The Seychelles delegation at the 2015 All Africa Games is made up of 110 members including athletes, coaches and officials participating in 12 sport disciplines.

The 11th edition of the All Africa Games will come to an end on the 19 September 2015.
