(Seychelles News Agency) - Ever since she was a little girl Melissa Pool felt inspired by the Miss Seychelles beauty pageant.

“…Seeing Wendy Boniface being crowned back in July 2006….I felt as if she was a hero…,” Pool could not prevent a smile as she remembered that time when she was only about 10 years old.

Eight years later, she aspires to experience the same feeling as she is one of the 12 contestants taking part in the Miss Seychelles…Another World 2014 beauty pageant.

The 18 year old is currently pursuing her studies at the Seychelles’ School of Advanced Level Studies (SALS) where she is studying sociology, law and psychology. She describes being accepted to the school as one of the most amazing moment of her life.

Although indecisive about her future career for now, she has already set her mind to the willingness to use every given opportunity to create awareness on child abuse if she wins the Miss Seychelles title, as she believes people should pay closer attention to this issue.

A resident of Brilliant on the east coast of Seychelles main island of Mahe, Melissa enjoys swimming but unfortunately suffered muscle injuries three years ago impairing her abilities to swim but nevertheless this does not prevent her from having a good time at the beach during her spare time.

Contestant number 8 describes herself as someone who is understanding and avoids conflicts, two qualities she feels can help her in the quest to try and win the Miss Seychelles title though she describes the experience to be ‘not quite what she had expected.’

“The preparatory stages have not been easy but even though things have been quite hectic it’s been an enjoyable journey,” Melissa told SNA adding that the experience has helped her to develop new skills such as time management.

Melissa Pool is someone who believes in herself and is proud of the person she has become, she has no regrets and does not wish to change anything that has happened in her life.

The young lady’s idea of true beauty is someone who displays characteristics such as love, respect, honesty and determination.

Five days till crowning night Melissa says even if she doesn’t take home the crown, she will forever cherish the memory of an amazing life experience.

“…Ten years from now, or more, I will have a special and memorable story to tell to my children, of when I was 18 years old and participated in the Miss Seychelles…..Another World 2014 beauty pageant.”
