(Seychelles News Agency) - The Seychelles’ President Danny Faure has sent a message of congratulations to the newly elected President of France Emmanuel Macron, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

The independent and centrist Macron was elected president on Sunday in a second round run-off. He won 66 percent against 34 percent for the Front National’s right-wing leader, Marine Le Pen. At 39, Macron, who was a political unknown three years ago, has become the youngest-ever president of France.

In his message to the new French president, Faure said, “Your brilliant election to the Presidency of your country gives me the happy opportunity to address your Excellency and the friendly people of France on behalf of the people of Seychelles and the government as well as on my own behalf, our very bright and sincere congratulations."

Faure added that: “In voting for you, the French people makes a well-deserved tribute to your outstanding qualities and brand, at the same time shows their deep commitment to the Republican principles with its motto -- 'liberty, equality, fraternity', as in the universal values of home and opening up to another.”

The Seychelles' head of state said he believed that through this election the French people wanted to also testify to the new tenant of the Elysee and “show their willingness to continue with you this policy of a solidarity, tolerance and open France to the world."

"While expressing my sincere wishes for success in the execution of the society you have conceived for the happiness of all the French people, I also express my impatience to meet with you so that I can work, your Excellency, to strengthen the excellent traditional friendship and cooperation between our two countries in the spirit of trust and shared interests, “said Faure.

The head of state of Seychelles, a group of 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean, ended his message in wishing the new French President and the French people, “good health, happiness and prosperity."
