(Seychelles News Agency) - A Seychellois national living in Malta has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and rape of his wife, Malta Today reported on Wednesday.

According to the news outlet, Roddy Williams, 37, was charged after "keeping his wife without access to food and drink, for several days, with the intent to kill her or put her life in manifest jeopardy.”

Roddy Williams, a cook, is married to Natalie Williams, 46.

Natalie Williams was last seen on Friday and was reported as a missing person to the authorities on Sunday. The Malta Independent stated that it was her father, Charles Higgans, who made the report to the police.

Higgans informed The Malta Independent that the police were aware of the couple’s domestic violence history "because Nathalie had filed numerous reports over the years.”

Roddy Williams has additionally been accused “of having been in possession of heroin, leading an idle and vagrant life, threatening police officers, causing slight harm to Natalie Williams’ son, and having disturbed the public peace.”

The news outlet also wrote that the court had denied Roddy Williams bail “bearing in mind the tenuous ties the accused had with Malta, coupled with the fact that should bail be granted and the accuse abscond or escape, extradition agreements with the Seychelles are limited.”
