Poland plans to open an honorary consulate in Seychelles, the newly accredited Polish ambassador to the island nation told President Danny Faure on Tuesday.
Ambassador Jacek Bazański said that Faure accepted the offer "without any hesitation."
“I asked him to give me around three to five months to find a good candidate to fill the post of honorary consul of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Seychelles,” said Bazański.
The ambassador told journalists that by having a consulate in Seychelles – a 115-island archipelago in the western Indian Ocean – it will be easier to assist Polish visitors who are facing challenges, such as a loss of passport, during their stay.
“I would prefer to have someone here in place because to be able to get a new passport from the ambassador in Nairobi is not easy,” said Bazański.
He added that the honorary consul will be in a position to help with the embassy based in Nairobi, Kenya, “to find possibility of corporation with Seychelles.” A time frame in the setting up of the consulate was not given.

Diplomatic relations between Seychelles and the Republic of Poland were established in 1979.
The newly accredited ambassador outlined trade, commerce and investments as fields of interests.
“We are selling some products to Seychelles and buying some from Seychelles, mainly fish, but that is not enough. My task will be to find other possibilities,” said Bazański.
He added “maybe it will be a good idea to find a Polish company that will be interested in buying fish from Seychelles, but there is nothing conclusive.”
On Thursday, the ambassador will be attending a series of meetings with members of the National Assembly on the subject of trade and commerce.
Bazański is the third ambassador of Poland to be accredited to the island nation. Poland is this year celebrating 100 years of independence.
