February 3 marks 100 days since Patrick Herminie became the sixth President of Seychelles. In his message to mark the milestone, Herminie spoke about the social contract his administration entered into with the nation.
He said it is one built on accountability, integrity, and a shared commitment to progress and over this period, significant steps have been taken to strengthen democratic institutions, enhance transparency, and restore public trust.
Herminie highlighted the key reforms undertaken, which have focused on protecting fundamental freedoms, improving the rule of law, and initiating independent reviews into areas of national concern.
Among the measures taken are the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry into the Assomption Island sub-lease, the appointment of a Board of Inquiry into the importation of firearms, and the establishment of a National Unity Committee to implement the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC).
He said measures have also been taken to reinforce accountability frameworks and reduce administrative interference across institutions, which are now underway.
“Economic relief has been delivered through the reinstatement of essential benefits, adjustments to retirement policies, and renewed social support programs aimed at easing pressure on households. Dedicated efforts to strengthen poverty alleviation mechanisms are also in motion,” stated the president.
He also spoke about the progress made in public health, education, culture, tourism, and youth empowerment.
Additionally, new agencies and councils have been established to fill critical gaps, modernise key sectors, and ensure that development remains inclusive and forward-looking.
“These first 100 days represent only the beginning. Several initiatives have already been completed, while others have been launched or are progressing through implementation. The administration reaffirms its commitment to fulfilling the broader social contract and continuing the work of building a fairer, more resilient, and more unified nation. As I have said since the beginning, “Trust the Process,” said the President.
