Seychelles signs grant agreement for Social Housing project with Abu Dhabi Fund for Development

The President of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie, witnessed the signing of a Grant Agreement between the government and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) to support the island nation’s Social Housing Project.
According to a press release from State House, the signing took place on Wednesday in the margins of the World Governments Summit being held in Dubai.
The $9 million grant is part of the UAE’s long-standing support for Seychelles’ development efforts, particularly in addressing housing needs.
The project includes 80 housing units for low-income families in Orchid Village, including 32 two-room units and 48 three-room units. The project is part of the government’s aim to improve living standards, welfare, and urban development while providing essential infrastructure such as electricity, water, sewage connections, and safe communal spaces.
The Social Housing project started in 2015, and the first phase covered housing at Takamaka and Barbarons.
The ADFD first became involved in financing development projects in Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, in 1979. It has since contributed around AED215 million ($58.5 million) in foreign aid for the archipelago’s development, primarily in the housing, energy, communications and transportation sectors.
ADFD has enjoyed strong relations with the government of the Seychelles since 1976. The Fund has financed development projects of around AED463 million across various regions of the country, focused on strategic sectors that drive sustainable development, including housing, telecommunications, transport, and energy.
